Community Classes

When moving back to Ely I was wondering how I could get my wife to meet more people that are interested in some of the things she is interested in. I found out about the wonderful programs offered here in Ely by Ely Community Education and the list of classes seems to be growing. This next group of classes will cover everything from cooking and yoga to woodworking and computers. So there is truly something for everyone. And from what I can tell the instructors seem to know what is going on. I have only heard good things about the cooking classes and I am excited to attend one of them myself. But what really made me happy is that my wife found a few classes she wants to try. So I would highly recommend anyone looking for something to do during the winter months to checkout the programs they offer.

They have a website classes.elymn.com that is currently being updated with the list of all the upcoming classes. So if you are interested you can check out the website and if you dont see a class that you think they are offering just contact Chris.

WolfTrack Classic Dog Sled Race

This will be the 5th year that this race has been run and it is always exciting. We are happy to help promote the WolfTrack Classic and we hope you come out to watch it. Mrs. Claus’ Christmas Party

Ely Winter Festival

What are The Boundary Waters

The Boundary Waters — also called the Quetico-Superior country — is a region of wilderness straddling the Canada – United States border between Ontario and Minnesota, in the region just west of Lake Superior. This region is part of the Superior National Forest in northeastern Minnesota, and in Canada it includes La Verendrye and Quetico Provincial Parks in Ontario. Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota may also be considered part of the Boundary Waters. The name "Boundary Waters" is often used in the U.S. to refer specifically to the U.S. Wilderness Area protecting its southern extent, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The Boundary Waters region is characterized by a vast network of waterways and bogs within a glacially-carved landscape of Precambrian bedrock covered in thin soils and boreal forests. The Boundary Waters is a popular destination for recreationalists pursuing camping, canoeing, fishing, as well as for those simply looking for natural scenery and relaxation. The area is one of several distinct regions of Minnesota.

What is Winter? It's more then just cold snowy days, it's hot chocolate with friends after a dog sledding trip and enjoying the holiday season shopping with family. It's taking time off to enjoy a quite day of ice fishing and trying a weekend vacation of winter camping with the kids. It's discovering new ways to enjoy winter and taking time to relax and enjoy the season.

Dog Sled Trips

Ely Minnesota holds a special place in all of our hearts and is in a way the essence of winter. It provides a variety of activities and experiences that sum up what winter is. Ice Fishing

Taking a Dog Sled Trip is an incredible experience. Riding behind a group of huskies ready to serve and trek you though the snowy wilderness is exciting and entertaining. The power of these creatures is amazing and watching how their owners interact with them and train them is interesting to watch. Since motorized vehicles are not allowed in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, dog sledding is a great way too get to see this beautiful country without having to walk the entire way. Dog sledding across the lakes and taking a break for some ice fishing or setting up a fire and enjoying some fresh coffee or hot chocolate is truly relaxing and peaceful. The serenity of being in the middle of nowhere with only you and the dogs surrounded by only the voice of the winds renews your energy and takes away the stresses of everyday work life. The next time you stop up to stay in Ely, give a musher a call and try a dog sled trip, you'll be glad you did.
